Its Best Locally Grown. Don’t Let People Tell You That You’re Locally Thrown.

Ever come across one of those people who think about food a lot more than they should? I know you know the kind: they have many different kinds of olive oils in their kitchen cupboards, need to wait for their red wine to breathe before drinking it, and get perturbed when their macaroni isn’t aldente enough. While in the midst of eating lunch, this person is already having a conversation about what they should have for dinner… ever meet that kind of person? Okay, I’ll admit it- I am guilty as charged for being that gal. I have been called a “food snob” before and I am not ashamed to admit it. What is more shameful is that many of us, myself for a long time included, don’t actually think about WHERE our food is coming from and what is being put into it. Sure, a lot of us think about food in terms of how many calories a product contains and how many grams of carbs and fats are in a serving, but what’s missing is what the true concern should be… The fact that in the last 30 years we have been ingesting trans fats, high fructose corn syrup, genetically altered crops, and livestock pumped with hormones that are fed slaughter house waste, makes us human guinea pigs to the food industry. This is seriously disturbing.

One example of why Provisions sells local products is because given the impossibility of identifying the pesticides used and the route taken to grow and transport, say, a banana from Central America to our local supermarket, foods grown locally make a lot of sense for those who want more control over what they put into their bodies. “Local food is often safer, too,” says the Center for a New American Dream (CNAD). Even when it’s not organic, small farms tend to be less aggressive than large factory farms about dousing their wares with chemicals.” Whether it’s the farmer who brings local peaches to market or the chef who makes local jam, knowing part of the story about your food is such a powerful part of enjoying a meal…

Here at Provisions we want to strengthen our local economy. America has been through some tough times recently. Supporting our local food makers will hopefully help bring up our economy and we are all about helping out our neighbors! Plus, local foods just taste better!
